A Quiet Thank You: When Recognition Becomes the Nudge You Needed

A Quiet Thank You: When Recognition Becomes the Nudge You Needed

There’s a strange space that sits between doing the work and sharing the work.

I’ve lived there for a while.

I’ve written many articles — drafts sitting quietly in folders, ideas half-finished, thoughts waiting for the right moment. Like many creative founders, I kept telling myself I’d share them “when things were ready”. When the brand was clearer. When the story felt complete.

But creative journeys are rarely neat.

They happen in fragments — between projects, between responsibilities, between life. They happen late at night, on kitchen tables, in sketchbooks, and in moments when nobody is watching.

So when I received recognition through the BRAINZ 500 Global Awards, it didn’t feel like a finish line.

It felt like a nudge.

A gentle but firm reminder that the work matters — even when it’s still unfolding.

The Work You Don’t See

Much of what I do happens quietly. Building brands slowly. Developing stories. Shaping ideas with care. Balancing creativity with responsibility. Keeping projects moving forward even when energy is low, the days are long, and progress feels invisible.

On the day I decided to write this article, I was on holiday.

No big plans. Nowhere I needed to be. A cold hanging on. Tired. Sitting with my own thoughts and my own work.

And in that stillness, it finally felt like the right time to begin sharing.

Happy Tartan: A Story Still Becoming

This first article is about Happy Tartan® — not because it’s finished, but because it’s alive.

Happy Tartan began as a simple idea: to create more than just tartan. It grew from curiosity, experimentation, and a desire to tell stories through colour, rhythm, and design. Over time, it became a story-led brand shaped by joy, imagination, and character.

The Happy Tartan Girls arrived not as a marketing plan, but as personalities that evolved naturally through the process. They brought clarity. Direction. A sense of play. They reminded me that creativity doesn’t need to be rushed to be valuable.

This brand is still developing. Still finding its feet. Still asking questions.

And that’s the point.

Why Recognition Matters — Even Mid-Journey

Recognition doesn’t always arrive when things are polished. Sometimes it arrives when you’re tired, unsure, and quietly wondering if the effort is worth it.

That’s when it matters most.

Being recognised by Brainz felt less like an award and more like encouragement — a moment to pause, acknowledge the hours of unseen work, and keep going.

It reminded me that purpose-driven creativity has value, even when it’s still in motion.

Moving Forward

This article is the first of many I’ve written but not yet shared. It’s also the first step in opening the door to the stories behind the work — the process, the uncertainty, the learning, and the joy that comes from building something with heart.

If you’re a creative founder sitting on drafts, ideas, or unfinished thoughts, consider this your nudge too.

You don’t need everything figured out to begin.

Sometimes, being recognised is simply permission to keep going — and to finally press publish.

With thanks to Brainz Magazine for the recognition, and for the encouragement it brings at just the right time.
